Interesting points, and I can understand some of the ideas not clicking with those not from UK. The "old medieval" footage is actually Laurence Oliver's Henry V from 1944 - a massive propaganda effort, for the British fighting spirit - Agincourt outnumbered, against overwhelming force of Nazi Germany. What you are getting here is a rekindling of that wartime plucky spirit of Britain standing alone, as in the small island community. Plus there is the use of Kipling's poem "Boots" about the soldiers in the Boer War, harassed and tormented by this unseen foes.

Basically this film is packed to the gills with all manner of quirky British cultural references, that I can well understand will not connect with many. Me I loved it, so glad to see it is far removed with it's own very distinct identity beyond the Walking Dead and Last of Us, American centered zombie apocalypse.

This is how we Brits do the zombie apocalypse .... like it or lump it 😅
