Feel like the reason Disney is still successful is that the generation that grew up in peak Disney is taking their kids. Doubt this current generation will have the same love when they grow up.

Yeah, I agree with the bland visuals because I've only been to Maui a few years back, but the sights that I saw stole my breathe away and have become etched into my mind with the sheer serene beauty as if painted by the heavens themselves, standing on the beach and letting the relaxing warm water that sparkled clear as crystal wash up to my feet, while witnessing one of the most beautiful sunsets I think I have ever seen, and genuinely made me emotional, I have pictures, sure, but it's done a disservice to the true beauty. I just feel so bitter towards this movie Nani decides to go to CALIFORNIA for a marine bio degree, which sure, being a Californian myself, there are good programs here like in Los Angeles and San Diego, but so does HAWAIʻI, if not better! Not to mention those who are native Hawaiʻian practically go free. Not to mention the anti-tourism message in the original, because it's only gotten worse as times go on where Hawaiʻi is suffering similar problems as Venice, where tourists don't respect the people or culture, and how the tourists themselves, outnumber the actual residents THREE TO ONE!

I feel like what a lot of Disney movies have lost is the sense of sacrifice. No movie has any character sacrifice meaningfully at all. All the drama in movies comes from sacrifice.

Damn… for a movie I thought they actually got the main character right on and wanted to see it because she was so adorable! I’ll pass now 😅 don’t get me wrong I don’t mind forward thinking, but when soulless moneybags with money for pockets and no connection to the real world are forcing these creative decisions into a melting pot rather than a fully fleshed out idea lead by a team with a United vision this is what you get. It’s nonsense woke soup.

The problem is that they stick to the same old tired writers that have lost touch with what people in the real world want. There were ways to tell both stories that fixed problems with the original (Snow White mostly) and stayed true to the original, and to the fans memories of the original while they were growing up. I would've got to see Lilo & Stitch if I heard good things about it rather than that it was terrible. I love the original. I feel like Disney did okay with a few of the live action versions and so they focussed on that but aren't putting any effort into making the story good. They're also doing that stupid Hollywood thing where they cast diverse actors when it doesn't make any sense to do so. As an example: Snow White. She's literally described a certain way in the original story, and it's in the freakin' name of the story. It doesn't make any sense to cast a diverse actor for that role. I had no problem with a diverse actress being cast as Ariel in the Little Mermaid because the colour of her skin isn't central to the movie. Another reason is because they need to make more stories where they tell diverse stories as well. I remember loving Pocahontas as a kid (although I didn't know that the portrayal was problematic) as well as Aladdin and Lilo and Stitch, and I really love Encanto. Those are diverse stories with diverse actors, the way it should be done and we need to acknowledge the problematic application of diverse actors to roles they're shoehorned into doesn't actually lead to true equality. Take the Jada Pinkett Smith version of Cleopatra. I don't agree with casting a white person because she wasn't white. I also don't agree with casting a black person because she wasn't black. It would also be inaccurate to cast her as Middle Eastern, despite the fact that she was a queen of Egypt because seeing as she's a historical person we know that she was from the area of the Mediterranean. I wouldn't cast a white person as Muhammed Ali, I wouldn't cast a black person as Jet Li, and I think that's the approach we need to take to historical people because it's disrespectful to their life and story otherwise. African Americans have a cultural experience that nobody else will be able to convey accurately. The same is true for every culture. Typically in fictional stories I'm more flexible but there are exceptions. Making Lilo anything other than a Native Hawaiian would be inaccurate to the story and change the meaning of it, the same as changing Merida to someone other than a white skinned, freckly redhead. Disney are too big and influential (a.k.a. ultra wealthy) for us to let them get away with pulling this crap. They can hire people to help with diversity (and call them something different if they want to pander to Trump) so that it's done in the right way but they refuse to. Unless they stop pulling this crap I'm not supporting Disney with my money.

the alien guy becoming friendly at the end is a major part of the movie. it basically can’t continue in live action without jumba (i think that’s his name?) so why on earth would they have him stay evil the whole movie?? and i HATE that they made them human. their alien forms looked fine

As a mom to a couple of stitch obsessed kids, I can say that there is a glimmer of hope out there, they were so excited to hear a remake was coming out but the trailer left all of us feeling incredibly disappointed. My especially obsessed kid came home one day saying she’s ‘never watching a movie where Nani gives her sister up for adoption, that’s not Ohana!’ She’s nine. I don’t expect her to hold out forever as it goes to Disney plus and it becomes the highlight of the movie theatre birthday party circuit this summer, but I am proud that she appreciates the original, as it goes with most of the remakes lately. The message of being good and kind, working hard for what and who you love and being a family got through to them, and from the sounds of it, there aren’t many positive takeaways from the new trough of Disney slop. Thank you for another insightful and informative video essay, it was fantastic 😚🤌🏼

The way Nani would NEVER give Lilo up to foster care in the OG movie, that live action can absolutely FUCK OFF for ruining the original movie's characters and core message. In the OG movie, Nano literally spends the ENTIRE MOVIE trying to keep Lilo at homr with her.

I'm absolutely CONVINCED things like the Rotten Tomatos reviews and other things are meant to give the Right People a viewport to the moral state of society and forward it to their bosses... You can't tell me there's not a more reliable method to watching the gradual reprogramming of a populace than by overstressing said populace and gaining feedback on how they consume their leisure time. As it stands from this movie's reviews, the "general populace" seems to think that giving up their futures to governmental programs is okay, and those people'schildren are going to grow up thinking that's completely normal without even a thought given to it... What do you think the Right People are going to do with that information?

I wrote an entire essay on that film for college. It was so bad. I had like a whole page dedicated to Gantu. Honestly, I just stopped watching Disney anything. I try to stay away from it as much as possible. I was excited to see the film, but I walked out. and that was it. I went home to my emotional support Gantu

Foolproof 5 step plan 1. Track down big names or the original voice actors like John fucking Wick and play them for nostalgia value 2. Create an absolute bastardization of a beloved Disney IP 3. Make it so bad media personalities cover it in depth bringing interest to it 4. Lock away all access to classic IPs behind a streaming service paywall for those who want to confort themselves with good fucking Disney 5. ??? 6. Profit!

I'm so happy I live in a town that has a drive in theatre that often does older films, I think I saw the original Lilo & Stitch being advertized last week. We don't have a normal movie thatre anymore, they went out of business a few years ago since they couldn't make it through covid. Last time I went to a movie theatre was to watch the 20th anniversary showing of shrek 2 with the hubby at the theatre next town over lol, boycotting this trash!

I know most Live actions are getting s* on, but I know one that people will absolutely go ape s* over if it gets a live action. Brother Bear, oh, god out of all of the cultures, Disney has had in their movies. You do not mess with the native Americans. Especially since most of their other culture stuff has been left in those can't be seen anymore. Considered very racist vaults. That I've been hearing about recently in videos. Because people called them Lost Disney media or erased the Disney media anyway, as long as if they make don't make a live action Brother Bear. Because that is gonna be one of the worst reactions they get. Good freaking luck if they do that, oh god

This movie is straight up propaganda. Marine biologists are not famous for having extensive lung capacity training envolving running with boulders underwater. Marines are. When your movie is about a marine biologist and her love of the ocean, she'll infodump, try to save some animals, be political about the environment. When your movie is about military propaganda, you'll have the "marine biologist" rescuing a beloved pet from drowning underwater while martial brass is blasting off your ears. But haha, Lilo is so silly, it's MARINE BIOLOGY, SILLY!

I feel like so many of the issues in the remakes. Stem from the result of most Disney writers being shitty people who have lived in LA their entire lives. So they have no clue what beautiful natural skylines, friends, and close families are. Because these are foreign concepts to them. They don’t exist in LA. Therefore they must be make believe.

the alien guy becoming friendly at the end is a major part of the movie. it basically can’t continue in live action without jumba (i think that’s his name?) so why on earth would they have him stay evil the whole movie?? <br>and i HATE that they made them human. their alien forms looked fine

The way Nani would NEVER give Lilo up to foster care in the OG movie, that live action can absolutely FUCK OFF for ruining the original movie&#39;s characters and core message. In the OG movie, Nano literally spends the ENTIRE MOVIE trying to keep Lilo at homr with her.

Disney's current track record has literally made me pull my old DVD player out so that I can watch the originals instead. I cannot let my kids think the new stuff is good lol
